Paul Alves is the senior mechanical engineer with AP Dynamics Inc., based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Graduated in 1975 (B.Sc. Mech. Eng.), spent 8 years as a design engineer working for 2 petrochemical plants, 2 years as a vibrations field engineer, and 6 years as a graduate student at the University of Calgary during which he was also a consultant for the oil and gas industry in dynamics and vibrations. Paul worked, for 10 years for both Nova Gas Transmission (now TCPL) and for Nova Chemicals, involved with magnetic bearing technology, rotordynamics and mechanical design.
Paul presented numerous seminars on the design, operation and troubleshooting of magnetic bearings, to clients, as well as conferences such as Texas A&M. Paul also developed and presented extensive courses in Vibration Analysis.
He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary and has published several papers in the areas of thermodynamics, rotordynamics, vibrations, flow measurement, acoustics and magnetic bearings. Has also provided training seminars in vibration technology to several institutions including the Vibrations Short Course at the Texas A&M Turbo Symposium of September 2000.
His award winning designs have been widely recognized by his peers and Paul continues to provide leadership and expertise for complex design projects to the AP Dynamics team.
